Oxnard PAL ended 2021 with another great holiday season. During Thanksgiving, our goal of 500 turkeys was met between three distributions at PAL, Camino Del Sol Park, and Oxnard PAL at Southwinds. During the PAL and Camino Del Sol Park distributions, Gold Coast Health Care plan along with Ventura County Health Department was on-site, offering Covid-19 vaccines and boosters for those who were interested. As for Christmas, we surpassed our goal of 1,200 by giving out 1,364 gifts to kids aged 0 - 12! Parents were asked to follow a pre-registration process and were given the date, location, and time for pick up. Distributions were held at College Park, Camino Del Sol Park, and Oxnard PAL at Southwinds.
As always, our efforts would not be possible without the help of our community. This year, our Sponsors included Reyes Coca-Cola Bottling Company, Gold Coast Carpenters 805 Union, Gold Coast Health Care Plan, Ventura County Fire Department's Spark of Love Foundation, Smart & Final, and Mission Church along with household donations. Volunteers included Mayor John Zaragoza, Gold Coast Carpenter's Union, Women's Auxilary 101, Mission Church, and the St. Bonaventure Cheer Team.
We cannot forget the amazing City staff who took time out of their busy schedule to help out with these events in some way or another such as Recreation Staff (Youth & Adult Sports, City Corps, After-School Program, Oxnard Special Populations), Oxnard Police Department, and Department Directors and Supervisors. We would also like to thank the Khalsa Food Pantry for donating over 100 bags of food and small crafts to hand out at the Southwinds Distribution and Radio Lazer for air promotion and music during our Christmas events. We cannot forget the generous household donations that came in online or through the mail.
